Episode 1: Rap Snacks, Bob Odenkirk, and manufacturing's workforce

Guest Colin Cosgrove of Chicago-based S&C Electric Company joins hosts Dan Davis and Jim Gorzek on the first episode of The Fabricator Podcast to talk about the importance of growing the manufacturing workforce through urban development, inner-city recruitment, and communicating more industry success stories. Cosgrove, the VP of U.S. Fabrications at S&C, also tells the story of how he moved from Ireland to start his career working in U.S. manufacturing and metal fabrication with little to no knowledge of the industry. Dan, Jim and the guys also open a few bags of Rap Snacks (shout out to the Migos Bar-B-Quin’ With My Honey wavy chips) and debate the best kind of potato chips; talk about Dan’s degree of separation to Bob Odenkirk; and debunk videos of huge frogs eating bananas on TikTok. Read more about how Colin Cosgrove helped Chicago-based Laystrom Manufacturing earn The FABRICATOR’s 2021 Industry Award. Watch a previous conversation between Dan Davis and Colin Cosgrove.

The Fabricator Podcast brings you conversations with people who make things out of metal. We speak with manufacturing leaders, metal fabricators, welders, job shop owners, small business entrepreneurs, artists, marketers, educators, and more. Host Dan Davis, Editor-in-Chief of The Fabricator, and a rotating co-hosts also go beyond discussing just manufacturing and the skilled trades, and chats about pop culture, current events, food, music, movies, comedy, and, of course, robots. Episodes drop on Tuesdays. The Fabricator Podcast is presented by the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association and part of the FMA Podcast Network.
