Ep 112: Kelley Higney on Taking a New Product from the Farmer’s Markets to the Global Market

In this week’s episode, I got to talk with Kelley Higney, the Founder and CEO of Bug Bite Thing, a chemical-free solution that instantly alleviates the stinging, itching and swelling caused by insect bites and stings. Hearing this story was so inspiring to see the passion and personal story behind the launch of what is now a global product. We chatted about how Kelley and her family were unprepared for the mosquitoes after moving to Florida from California and how her oldest daughter, who was just six-months-old at the time, suffered terribly from mosquito bites. When none of the over-the-counter remedies worked, Kelley knew there had to be a better solution. Enter Bug Bite Thing: Kelley began to research how other countries were combating insect bites and stings when she came across a little known suction tool. And of course, the day the tool arrived, she actually got a bite walking to her mailbox.  She immediately gave it a try and instantly all the itching, swelling, and pain just disappeared! The suction tool transformed the quality of life for her family and she knew she had to share it with the world!  Listen in to hear more about Kelley’s journey that led to her and her mother, Ellen McAlister, securing Lori Greiner’s ‘Golden Ticket’ on Shark Tank in 2019 and Bug Bite Thing’s continued growth into the Global Market. In fact, Bug Bite Thing is  now Amazon’s #1 selling product for insect bite relief with over 50,000 reviews and is also available in over 30,000 retail locations across the United States, and is sold in 25 countries. In this episode you will hear: -How Kelly took Bug Bite Thing from Farmer’s Markets to the Global Market -How one news story catapulted product sales -The impact of customer feedback on business growth -How Kelley and her mom prepared for their Shark Tank Debut -What life after Shark Tank has been like for the business & for Kelley and her mom -Ways Kelley has navigated massive growth while also staying a family run business -Why A Bug Bite Thing is making educating customers a priority    We’d love to hear from you.
