Episode 3 (or was it 2...): Finbarr Lucas

In this episode we get to know Finbarr Lucas whose beautifully crafted furniture reflects both his artistic inclinations and his passion for sustainability.   This episode was pre-recorded some weeks ago and in the meantime, the Sheffield Sustainability Network launch event which Finbarr refers to in the podcast has taken place, and it was extremely well attended!  Find out more here:  https://www.sheffieldsustainabilitynetwork.org/ Finbarr makes the very good point that by creating bespoke furniture of 'heirloom' quality (mostly freestanding, so customers can take it with them if they move house) he is helping to reduce the waste generated by furniture with a shorter lifespan. We discuss the usual set of questions including learning how he makes floating shelves and shaker doors, providing insights into his methods of working with hardwoods. Finbarr is based in Sheffield and you can follow him on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/finbarrlucas/ I'm Alastair Johnson at Freebird Interiors - providing online content to educate, encourage and build a community of supportive woodworking business owners.  You can support my work creating YouTube and podcast content by donating or becoming a member at: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/freebird - members get extra benefits. Om Podcasten

I'm Alastair Johnson from Freebird Interiors on Youtube and in this podcast series due to start in February 2020 I'll be chatting with a wide range of other woodworkers, focusing mainly on fitted furniture manufacture and installation. I want to understand how and why they build things the way they do, including their choice of materials, tools and techniques. I also want to get under the skin of what motivates and inspires them, what led them to do this kind of work in the first place, what they love about it, what they hate about it, and what motivates them to keep doing it as a career.
