#110 - Arno Klien | Ski Historian
Arno Klein was born in 1940, in Austria, and learned how to ski from his father at a young age. By the early 1960s he began to pursue alpine ski instructing in Europe and in 1963 he was invited to visit Japan for the first time, with some other instructors, to observe ski teaching techniques. In 1983 he saw the movie Freedom of The Heels which introduced him to the Telemark turn. He was immediately hooked on learning more about it and how to do it himself. Over the years he’s helped organize a network of like-minded Telemark skiers from the region for races, gatherings, and the like. Aside from his contributions to Telemark in Europe, he’s also and avid ski historian and continues to research an array of topics related to snow sliding.
