The Testaments Discussion Part Two

Today we’re discussing The Testaments, Margaret Atwood’s sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale. Atwood published The Testaments in 2019 to immediate critical acclaim, winning the 2019 Booker Prize, and Best Fiction Novel in the Goodreads Choice Awards. The story uses three familiar female narrators to tell the tale of the future of Gilead, with the brunt of the events being set 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale. In very exciting news for Handmaid's Tale fans, it was recently announced that Bruce Miller is currently adapting the novel for a new television series – well, he was, and he will continue to do so after the Writer’s Strike concludes. In the meantime, join us as we discuss the plot of the novel in great detail, as well as thoughts as to how it might weave into the current state of the events and characters in the television series. We had so many thoughts, in fact, that we decided to split the episode into two parts, so if you missed it, we suggest you listen to Part One first since we cover the plot synopsis in that segment! Next up, we will begin our series of podcast discussions on specific characters and their arcs over the 5 seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale to date. So come back in a couple weeks for our deep dive into the fascinating and badass character of June Osborne!
