He's the author of "The Jesse Jackson Phenomenon: The Crisis of Purpose in Afro-American Politic," "Renewing Black Intellectual History: The Ideological and Material Foundations of African American Thought," "Class Notes: Posing as Politics and Other Thoughts on the American Scene," and most recently "The South: Jim Crow and Its Afterlives." Masuda Sultan is an Afghan-American women’s rights activist who has worked with NGOs on Afghan women’s rights and as an advisor on economic reform with the Asian Development Bank. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Women and Foreign Policy Advisory Committee and the US-Afghan Women’s Council. Medea Benjamin is the co-founder of the women-led peace group CODEPINK and the co-founder of the human rights group Global Exchange.She received numerous prizes, including: the Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace Prize from the Fellowship of Reconciliation, the Peace Prize by the US Peace Memorial, the Gandhi Peace Award, and the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation Award. She is a former economist and nutritionist with the United Nations and World Health Organization.
