In the first episode of her second season, Emily talks to communication professor and author Seth Pierce. In addition to holding a PhD in communication and teaching at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska—Seth is a former pastor who recently published a book called Seeking an Understanding: How to Have Difficult Conversations Without Destroying Your Relationships. Purpose. Hope. Justice. For all those harmed in white evangelical spaces. Emily is a blogger who has been writing about faith deconstruction and religious trauma related topics for 3 years. As someone who grew up inside white evangelicalism (of the charismatic Pentecostal variety) and didn't leave until she was 35 years old, she's done everything from children's ministry, to church administrative work, to leading small groups and ministries, to church finance, to writing small group curriculum. Now she advocates for those who've been abused by those same church systems and doctrine.
