The War on Sex

Welcome to season 3! It’s been a minute but we're ready to dive into this again and keep bringing you thoughtful, informed content. In this episode, Em revisits the topic that started it all, purity culture, as it relates to recent discourse in deconstruction and progressive Christian spaces online. She then sat down with her friend Matt, who you may know as The Snarky Gent on socials, to discuss a certain new book on Christian sex & marriage that made waves recently. Matt is a homeschool survivor and ex-evangelical and speaks out regularly on the harms of purity culture and other toxic theology. He was also a contributor to the original series on purity culture that started this podcast nearly two years ago. Purpose. Hope. Justice. For all those harmed in white evangelical spaces. Emily is a blogger who has been writing about faith deconstruction and religious trauma related topics for 3 years. As someone who grew up inside white evangelicalism (of the charismatic Pentecostal variety) and didn't leave until she was 35 years old, she's done everything from children's ministry, to church administrative work, to leading small groups and ministries, to church finance, to writing small group curriculum. Now she advocates for those who've been abused by those same church systems and doctrine.
