National continues to slam our justice process for youth-offenders. The party is calling for tougher penalties for young people who commit robberies and ram raids. It says while there's been a halving of prosecutions of young people since 2017 – ram raids have increased 518 percent under Labour's watch. Party Leader Christopher Luxon told Mike Hosking there's a range of escalating tools in the justice system that aren't being used. He says there are too many family conferences and not enough use of community service or home detention. Luxon also believes youth justice residences need to be used more for repeat offenders.
