#22 - BYU Honor Code

We listen to your stories about the Honor Code.

Some of the questions we discuss are:

  • Does the Honor Code change? We give a brief history - women weren't allowed to wear jeans on campus until 1981.
  • Why do people report their friends and roommates to the honor code office?
  • Are students disincentivized to talk to their bishop and repent while in school for fear of being kicked out?

In choosing to attend BYU, students agree to live the honor code. If they can't or don't want to they can go to a different school. BYU is a private institution that can make its own rules. However, the honor code may create unintentional adverse effects that should at least be discussed.
