32: How the Natural Law Sort of Explains Everything—John Lawrence Hill

It’s the moral law written in your heart. It’s thing you can’t not know. And it underpins civil law and morality. It’s the natural law. Starting with the Greeks, and “baptized” by St. Thomas Aquinas, natural law is the fundamental way that we operate morally. Rooted in God’s eternal law, natural law has to do with what rational beings must do, and avoid doing, to perfect themselves. This can get pretty nerdy fast. Fortunately, this episode’s guest (a former atheist who became a Catholic in 2009) is gifted at breaking natural law down into bite-sized morsels.  John Lawrence Hill teaches constitutional law at Indiana University, and has a new book titled After the Natural Law: How the Classical Worldview Supports Our Modern Moral and Political Values   Don’t forget to Subscribe to the show in YouTube, as well as the podcast so you can get the weekly show updates.
