In this podcast episode, host Amy Rowlinson talks property and charity with Hasmita Reardon, a multi-award winning property investor and Founder of the charity New Leaf Support. Hasmita, or Hasy as she is more often called, has been investing in property for over 22 years and built her own road to financial freedom and security. It hasn’t always been easy though. As a young girl, Hasy came to the UK as a Ugandan refugee with her family seeking asylum from the cruel despot Idi Amin.   Hasy describes how she initially struggled as a teenager at school, got turned down 10 times before she finally managed to get her first BTL mortgage and how she juggled buying and maintaining rental properties with three young boys always in tow. A true self-educated entrepreneur with a heart of pure gold, Hasy’s resilience and persistency enabled her to build and manage an impressive BTL property portfolio in Swale, run a busy lettings agency and find the time to volunteer in her local community.   As an active landlord, Hasy saw increasing numbers of tenants needing support due to domestic abuse and she knew just how she could help them. They say that charity begins at home.
