Ep 040: The Healing Power of Light: A Journey to Health for a Child with Down Syndrome with Nicole Hartman

"We all feel better when we're outside." says Nicole Hartman.   In the latest episode of the Quantum Biology Collective podcast, host Meredith Oke welcomes Nicole Hartman of Circadian Family Wellness. They delve deep into Nicole's journey of understanding the intrinsic rhythms of our bodies and the crucial role of healthy light habits, particularly beneficial for her son with Down syndrome.   Nicole and her husband, both immersed in physical education, consistently valued health and wellness. But their son's Down syndrome diagnosis introduced a unique set of health challenges. As he grew, autoimmune disorders like thyroid issues and type 1 diabetes became apparent.   In pursuit of effective solutions, Nicole ventured into quantum health, uncovering the profound connection between our body's natural rhythms and holistic well-being. By embracing strategies like morning sun exposure and minimizing blue light at dusk, she noticed a significant uplift in her family's health. Sleep became more restorative, and her son's cognitive and communication skills sharpened.   Exploring further, Nicole recognized the benefits of red light therapy and molecular hydrogen. These treatments bolstered her son's mitochondrial function and were aligned with the body's natural cycles. Her experience underlined the challenges that individuals with Down syndrome might face concerning optimal body rhythms. Yet, with lifestyle adjustments that echo our intrinsic rhythms, their quality of life can see marked improvement.   This episode highlights the interplay between our health and the body's natural rhythms, emphasizing the transformative potential of even minor adjustments. By aligning with nature's cues and creating rhythm-conscious environments, we can pave the way for heightened health and vitality.   Quotes: "Gut health amongst people with Down syndrome is extremely sensitive, just like the rest of their body is extremely sensitive to any light, any chemical, anything that's creating chaos, because it almost seems like there's chaos in the body to begin with, which you would probably attribute to like poor mitochondrial function is where I would go with it." (8:00 | Nicole Hartman) "I think ideally all humans would would be in a in a better health state if we if we lived by light and dark - the natural light and dark cycles. (18:22 | Meredith Oke)  "It's saying that I have, or we have, a hand in his health and we're not going to just throw our hands up. And like you said, it's not it's not a life sentence because he has a beautiful life. And we're just choosing to interact with nature and use that to bring about health. And that gives you a little more hope." Is your light environment more important than the food you eat? Can sunlight treat depression? Does a barefoot walk outside boost your immune system? The Quantum Biology Collective is a group of pioneering health professionals who study, apply and explain the emerging field of quantum biology: a new paradigm of understanding how human health REALLY works that is light years beyond the current established medical model. From the vast research showing that circadian rhythms regulate every important process in the body to emerging research that quantum mechanical processes are taking place in our cells—this new world is the missing link that you’re searching for, whether you’re a health practitioner, or someone trying to optimize your own health and your family’s. We feature a variety of experts, from medical doctors to researchers to health coaches, who all have first-hand experience applying these principles—and getting incredible results—in their health practices and in their own lives.
