Silo Busting 18: IoT, AI, and Cybersecurity with Timur Yunusov and Sam Rehman

Your product might be smart… but that doesn’t make it secure. In this latest #CyberSecurityByDesign conversation, Timur Yunusov, Head of Offensive Security Research at Cyber R&D Lab, and Sam Rehman, our Chief Information Security Officer and SVP, zero in on IoT devices and the vulnerabilities they create when artificial intelligence and machine learning are folded into the mix. Yunusov notes: “All companies will collect and store data for as long as possible and as much as possible just because the market says: ‘Hey, guys, maybe in five years’ time you will need them.’” They also discuss the insights of a recent whitepaper that surveyed the AI risk landscape and put a smart doorbell to the test. You’ll be fascinated to learn how Yunusov and his team deconstructed the doorbell—and developed a detailed picture of its security flaws. He notes that he originally considered installing the doorbell in his own home after the project concluded, but after learning all he learned, “I decided not to do that. Obviously.” Host: Alison Kotin Engineer: Kyp Pilalas Producer: Ken Gordon
