562: Acknowledging and Assessing Negative Thought Patterns

I’m not gonna lie, you might feel totally called out by today’s episode. But I think and hope it will ultimately really help you to see how your brain is holding you back at times.  Here’s the deal… You likely have a bunch of negative thought loops running through your brain all.the.time. Know that you are not alone in this. Not even a little bit. Also, know that these loops that just keep playing on repeat are so dangerous over time.  They keep you small.  They keep you quiet.  They keep you sad and frustrated and exhausted.  They keep you from enjoying some of the best parts of your life.  They keep you from seeing what your life could be.  So, let’s shut them up, shall we?! In today's episode, I talk you through 7 common negative thought patterns I learned about from Dr. David Burns: All or nothing thinking Overgeneralization Magnification/Catastrophizing Emotional Reasoning Should Statements Rumination Overthinking I’ll admit, when I first learned of these I was like, “DAMN, HE LIVES ALL THE WAY IN MY HEAD.” But I also felt a little relief in knowing that the loops in my head are common loops and they can be retrained, or rerouted, if you will.  Listen in to dig into these common negative thought patterns so you can learn how to retrain your brain in more functional and productive ways.
