760: Rae McDaniel: Gender Expression, Gender Exploration & Gender Magic

Rae McDaniel (they/them) is a non-binary Speaker, Author, Therapist, Certified Sex Therapist, Coach, and Transgender Diversity and Inclusion Educator.  Rae helps audiences gain the sheer audacity to be themselves in the world through play, pleasure, and possibility.  Their book Gender Magic, coming out on May 31st, is a first-of-its-kind practical guide to achieving gender freedom with joy, curiosity, and pleasure for transgender and non-binary individuals, gender explorers, and those who love them. They have been featured in The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, Time, and Women’s Health, and spoken at Rutgers University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois Chicago, Soho House, The Wing, and Rachel’s Rodgers’ Millionaires Summit.  Rae is also the founder and CEO of Practical Audacity, a Gender & Sex Therapy practice in Chicago, serving over 300 clients yearly.  When Rae isn’t educating audiences and bettering the world, they can be found drinking too much coffee, snuggling with their dog Gizmo (who might actually be a gremlin), or sipping whiskey with a good book.  Listen in to hear Rae share: How their journey as a queer, non-binary person inspired their work How their work as a therapist serving trans & non-binary people inspired their book, Gender Magic The significance of integrating Play, Pleasure, and Possibility in gender exploration  The importance of knowing/understanding what we are moving toward vs what we are running from, when considering our own choices and/or when we are considering the choices of those around us What the spectrum of gender expression looks like - well beyond the binary of only male and female How our gender evolves as we evolve over the course of our lives How freedom around gender expression deeply enhances and impacts the entire world Question to ask yourself if you’re struggling to accept or understand non-binary, trans people The importance of being the loudest advocate and ally you can be right now Links mentioned: Rae on SMA Episode 516: Taking The Suffering Out Of Transitioning for Trans People Connect with Rae: http://www.rae-mcdaniel.com Get the book: Gender Magic: https://www.gendermagic.com Rae’s Therapy Practice: https://www.practicalaudacity.com Instagram: @theraemcdaniel and @practicalaudacity Rae on TikTok Rae on FB We love the sponsors that make this show possible! Welcome to Shameless Leadership! This show is for women, transgender people, non-binary folks, and allies who are committed to advancing their leadership and the leadership of those around them. In this space, we believe everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, and supported. Our mission is to help you foster these feelings within your own circles of influence to build trust, psychological safety, and a culture of belonging. In each episode, we dive into essential topics impacting women in leadership - everything from shutting down your inner critic and imposter syndrome to overcoming perfectionism to using your voice in new ways to advocate for yourself, your ideas, and other folks carrying marginalized identities. You'll hear practical tips, effective strategies, and inspiring stories that will not only enhance your leadership skills but also broaden your perspective to become a more confident, thoughtful, and empathetic leader. Our stories come from people carrying identities who are often underrepresented, underestimated, and excluded. By sharing their experiences, we aim to provide you with invaluable lessons that will transform your leadership journey. We are thrilled to have you join this community of Shameless Leaders who are actively creating a world where everyone, regardless of gender, can intentionally lead through a more curious, compassionate, and inclusive lens.
