#4 - Teresa Suárez - Photographer 🇫🇷
In this fourth episode, I interviewed Teresa Suárez, a documentary photographer based in Paris. I met Teresa three years ago, when I just arrived in the city. She seemed to know it very well, and I was impressed to see this young Spanish girl carving out her place in Paris’ highly competitive journalism industry. Born and raised in Oviedo, Teresa had her first encounter with documentary photography through the reportages of the Spanish civil war. Mesmerized by the shots of Robert Capa and David Seymour, that ended up being an eye-opening experience for the soon-to-be photographer, who would have later covered a variety of social movements stretching from the anti-corruption protests in Spain in 2011 to the latest Paris demonstrations against police violence in June 2020. With Teresa, we talked about the importance to know your role when you tell someone’s else story, why being a woman photographer is still way tougher than it should be, and why you need to be confident about your work, even before you actually master the craft.
