LastPass by LogMeIn recently released its 3rd annual Global Password Security Report which covers password use in the workplace. The report dives into password hygiene findings from 47,000 organizations worldwide, including the use of security measures like multifactor authentication and single sign-on. This report comes on the heels of the FBI’s revelation that attacks on 2FA are increasing, with secondary tokens or one-time codes lacking the security provided by a more robust MFA solution. LastPass can speak to why a multi-layered approach is necessary for true online security. Highlights from the report include unsurprising news that password sharing and reuse remains a common practice in most businesses and employees reuse a password an average of 13 times. But multifactor authentication (MFA) use is on the rise with more than half of companies globally (57%) now have employees using MFA, up 12 percentage points from last year’s report. The password struggle is real, especially for employees at small businesses – Employees at small businesses have an average of 85 passwords to manage compared to 25 passwords for those at the largest companies. Employees at small businesses reuse 10-14 passwords compared to just four among employees at larger organizations.
