Southeast of Saturn feat. Hobey Echlin, Windy & Carl, ATMIG

Get ready to enter through the portal of Detroit Shoegaze, and become its no.1 fan! This week on the Third Men Podcast we're excited to present an over-sized exploration of the wonderful new SOUTHEAST OF SATURN compilation from Third Man Records! Southeast of Saturn explores the rich tapestry of the Detroit area's Shoegaze scene from the late 80's and early 90's in all its dreamy, ambient, melodic and skillfully crafted glory. Joining us on this journey are friends of the show Julia and Tobias from the band ATMIG (https://www.atmig.com/), and these avid shoegazers are the perfect guides to walk us through this wonderfully spacey genre of music. Jack White fans might be surprised to hear just how close Detroit Shoegaze and its players brushed up next to the Detroit Garage Rock scene and the world of TMR in those mid-to-late 90's years, and we uncover some of those familiar faces & sounds in this episode. Southeast of Saturn collects 19 beautiful tracks by many different bands - and we're proud to announce that members from two of the most notable groups on the comp are here to talk with us on the show today! First up is bass player for the mighty Majesty Crush, Mr. Hobey Echlin. Hobey's stories are a mile-a-minute - don't blink or you'll miss the secret origin of Majesty Crush, the band's connections to groups like Goober and the Peas, and detailed accounts of the slinky, sexy genius of lead singer David Stroughter. Next up are the amazing Windy & Carl, whose gorgeous ambient melodies influenced countless musicians and entranced listeners for over 25 years. In addition to their wonderful music, Windy & Carl's Stormy Records shop in Dearborn, MI is a hub of music and culture - taste-making sounds for its many customers and shining a light on quality music in Michigan. We're thrilled to have this wonderful collection of interviews to share with you all, and encourage everyone to get their hands on Southeast of Saturn - out now on Third Man Records! Hosted on Acast.
