e253. So… Is Princess Diaries 2 a Bad Movie?

In 2001, Disney released the film adaptation of the YA novel The Princess Diaries, starring Ann Hathaway and launching her career on a trajectory that would eventually earn her an Oscar. However, before she got there, she’d make a sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, a film with… somewhat less acclaim. However, the second film does have its fans, including our very own Hannah. In fact, she staunchly believes that the movie’s 26% Rotten Tomatoes score is entirely in errro. So on this week’s episode join us as Hannah and returning guest Josh Stroud try to convince Mav and Monica that Princess Diaries 2 is actually a film masterpiece of political intrigue with poignant allusions to Machiavelli. Listen to their pitch and let us know if you agree in the comments. Vox Populorum is a blog and podcast devoted to pop culture criticism. We believe that the best way to understand culture is to discuss it. But we also believe that it's a lot more fun to have these conversations throwing back a couple beers at the bar rather than in a classroom. Please join our weekly round table of media critics, academics, creators, artists, professors, students and fans for an engaging discussion about movies, novels, comic books, television, video games, music or whatever else we happen to think of!
