e263. We Gotta Talk About MILF Manor! We Just Do…

Every once in a while a TV Show comes along that is just so bizarre that we feel like it deserves a deep dive examination just in and of itself. That was the case with MILF Manor! If you’ve not heard of MILF Manor, it is a reality dating show on TLC, The Learning Channel, which focuses on older women dating younger men, with the twist that all of the younger men are the sons of some other woman on the show and then the drama that ensues when each pair of mothers and sons has to deal with this. It is obviously a trainwreck waiting to happen. The fascinating thing about it is, the trainwreck never really comes. Instead, we end up with a fairly well balanced show that leaves us with more questions than anything else. On this week’s episode, Mav and Monica are joined by Michael Burns, host of Wisecrack Live, to talk about MILF Manor and why such a trashy idea with such poor execution actually ended up being such a fascinating study in both TV and social dynamics. And why we actually sorta kinda wish the show was a little trashier than it actually is. Listen and let us know your thoughts in the comments. Om Podcasten

Vox Populorum is a blog and podcast devoted to pop culture criticism. We believe that the best way to understand culture is to discuss it. But we also believe that it's a lot more fun to have these conversations throwing back a couple beers at the bar rather than in a classroom. Please join our weekly round table of media critics, academics, creators, artists, professors, students and fans for an engaging discussion about movies, novels, comic books, television, video games, music or whatever else we happen to think of! Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit.
