Aww, the tandem bike.  What a great way to get some exercise.  The tandem bike is also known as a bicycle made for two.  The two people that ride are the Captain or Pilot and the Stoker.
The Pilot  rides in front and is responsible for handle all the shifting, braking and steering, and setting the pace. The Pilot is also responsible for communicating  to the Stoker who is on the back seat. The most important quality that the Pilot needs to demonstrate is an ability to communicate and inspire confidence and trust in the Stoker .
The Pilot is the eyes of the tandem.
The role of the Stoker is to provide the power to the bike. A Stoker preferably needs good endurance and strength since they are the one that is pedaling consistently to keep the bike moving.  The Stoker also needs good communication skills.
Tandem biking is a great way to exercise, build communication skills, develop team work  and enjoy the outdoors.
