Within hours, Joe Biden had reacted, first at a fundraiser where he called on Netanyahu to sack his far-right coalition partners, then at a White House Hanukkah ceremony where the US president called on Israel to stop its "indiscriminate" bombing of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
