30. Setting Boundaries

As nurses, we try to set boundaries all the time. We tell our patients, “you can’t swear at me,” or “you can’t talk to our staff like that.” But then comes the tough realization that our patients, in fact, can do whatever they want (and so can everyone else). When we use boundaries as a way to control others, we’re just setting ourselves up for a frustrating power struggle. But fortunately there’s a better way.
