Julian Clary- "They Can't Touch You For It"

Hello, and resoundingly welcome to an extra-special episode of Tony Slattery’s Rambing Club! This is an auspicious and momentous occasion, for not only is this our fifth anniversary, it’s also the very first Rambling Club to feature a special guest star. That’s right! Joining us to trudge the darkling lanes this evening is none other than stand-up comedy legend and author, Mr Julian Clary.Buoyed by the presence of a healthy new member, the club rushes off to destination 893: Afro-Asiatic Literature. At least there’s some diversity of subject matter in today’s episode, if not particularly in our panel. From there we totter gamely to destination 355: Military Science. Are any of our heroes in any kind of position to share state secrets and risk reigniting the Cold War with their insider knowledge on the latest army hardware? Perhaps so; they’re a butch lot. Then it’s a brisk march to destination 421: English Writing Systems and Phonology, so the chaps break out the dictionary and scratch their heads as they grapple to come to terms with what their lives have become. Once they’ve finished with their very wrong ideas, it’s time to strut cockily back down the garden path to Tony’s shed, where the cocoa’s on the boil. If nothing else, you can say you spent the hour with two comedy legends (and two halfwits). And as ever, if you want to know more about any of the subjects covered today, there are some half-hidden trails lurking in the show notes which you can find, alongside a plethora of other goodies, at www.pateron.com/SlatteryLive.Julian’s new book, Curtain Call for Murder, is out now from Orion books, and he is appearing in the lead role in Robin Hood, this year’s pantomime at the London Palladium until 12 January 2025. He’s charmingly reticent about plugging these things in the podcast, so we’ve plugged them here instead.Tony Slattery’s Rambling Club is a free-associating conversation, sometimes involving very special guests. It drops every Friday on every podcasting outlet known to man. We’d love it if you came along for the walk. If nothing else, it’ll help you get your steps in! Music composed and performed by Michael Livesley & Andy Frizell The voice of Pwfthhh- Michael Livesleywww.michaellivesley.com Series Producer- Erica LearProducers- Alan Dyebing & Stuart MorrisExecutive Producer- Kris CastleSeries Executive Producer- Mark StricksonJoin the rambling club and receive your club membership card, badges and access to early release episodes and exclusive club-only perks! www.patreon.com/SlatteryLive Official Website- www.tonyslattery.comTwitter/X: @SlatteryLiveInstagram: tony_slattery_official Fanfaronade Productions © 2024 Hosted on Acast.
