Uncovering Incels

Trigger warning: This episode includes descriptions of mass shootings, which some individuals may find distressing.

In the latest episode of Understanding Men, Luke and Fraser dive into the subject of 'incels' and set out to illustrate the contributing factors that have lead to the development of this community. They explore how the incel ideology is built off resentment and entitlement, and highlight how it often blames external factors for their percieved lack of romantic success, such as appearance and wealth.

They address the impact of social media and the rise of influencers, and how this has made the allure of celebrity appear much closer and more achievable, but how it has also narrowed the modern standard of beauty for both men and women. Emphasising women's changing role in society throughout the last century, they question whether this has contributed to a loss of purpose and confusion for young men.

Finally, they underline the importance of taking responsibility for ones actions, the danger of leaning into feelings of hopelessness and loss, and stress the positive influence of young people spending quality time with loved ones.
