During this time anime was in your face with insane stories, spectacular characters, and over-the-top ultra-violence that is rarely seen in our modern era. Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, and many others would define my anime fandom during this time. Anime just wasn't a really well-known thing back in then like it is today.
