Balanced Training - what is it? and why do we need it?

Welcome to Season 3 where Billie takes a look into trending methods such as Balanced Training, Counter Conditioning and Impulse Control, commonly recommended techniques grounded in Operant Conditioning and Positive Reinforcement Training, and how dog trainers, professionals in the field and dog-people view dog training which may be creating barriers to success. Balanced Training creates many disputes amongst trainers. Can it be effective?  Well, Operant Conditioning requires positive and negative reinforcements, yet those reinforcements need to be effective. To be effective, they need to make sense to the dog, be correlative to the issue/behavior, and be calm and clear.  Is this possible with dogs and if so, is it necessary? If you have not listened to Season 1 you may want to do that as this is just a review. DISCLAIMER by Billie: "For 30 years I have harnessed the dog's brain to effectively work with dogs. I do not claim to be an expert on C.B.T. for humans.  I learn from working with dogs and clients, reading books on mental rehabilitation, and am fortunate to have had many conversations with professionals in the fields of social work, animal science, veterinarian care, child psychology (trauma), mental health practices and criminal and mental rehabilitation."Enjoy your learning journey!Season 5 is a "Dogology" (kinda like a mixology) of tips, Q and A's, interviews, discussions and a deeper look into the 3 components of UPWARD Dogology all with the goal of increasing awareness and making the world a better place for all animals, including humans! Season 4 is interviews with people and organizations that help animals. Increase your awareness and be part of the solution by listening, sharing, and reviewing.  Season 3 dives deep into trending methods. Are they right for you and your dog? Season 2 shares the learning journey of my clients with dogs with different issues and backgrounds; always interesting and a great way to feel a connections with others who have similar experiences.  Season 1 starts by sharing my unique learning journey to explain how I know what I know. This is followed by a change in mindset - in the human!  This is followed by an explanation of the differences between Conditioning Methods and that of CBT, followed by a deeper look into Dog Cognition, the  principles of CBT in relation to dogs and dog training, and the need to include positive and beneficial  approaches into mainstream dog training.  Sending out a big thanks to The Jeff Mertick Band for contributing the fun music clips.
