Sober Curious Update (The Edge)

Sober Curious UpdateDescription: Kelly gives updates on where she stands with alcohol and her sober curious journey. She answers email questions about whether or not she is drinking at all, what today looks like and what cutting out alcohol completely for 10 months taught her.“Being sober curious means, literally, to choose to question, or get curious about, every impulse, invitation, and expectation to drink, versus mindlessly going along with the dominant drinking culture.” -Ruby Warrington“It was an interesting realization to see how disconnected from self I had become and the level of self respect that came from starting to choose myself and respecting my body. Ultimately, in many ways removing alcohol has really aided in my relationship with self.”The duo discussed mindless drinking and how alcohol is treated as a solution to everything in our culture. Kelly addressed why being sober curious doesn’t mean you have a problem with alcohol.“It’s actually so empowering. When someone says ‘do you want to drink?’ You actually pause and ask yourself- ‘do I want a drink right now?’ I just don’t think it hurts to ask the questions.”They also address the massive physical benefits Kelly discovered, including a drastic change in her anxiety levels.“You start to crave different things- a 20 minute walk, a quiet 10 minutes where you breathe deeply and connect to your body, 2 minutes of dancing around the room. You brain adjusts to new ways to get the hit of dopamine and they actually last longer and have no negative hangover effects.”Chip talks about his own journey of cutting back on alcohol.   Follow Kelly: @velvetsedge  Follow Chip: @chipdorsch Email: theedge@velvetsedge.comFollow Velvet's Edge on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/velvetsedge/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
