Shelter medicine has evolved over the past several decades and is now taught at many U.S. veterinary schools and has become a rewarding career option for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. The growth in shelter medicine programs and in veterinary professionals choosing shelter medicine as a career is also elevating the quality of veterinary care at animal shelters across the country.
