Mermaids (1990)

We're finishing off the year with a movie that has one sequence set at New Year's and zero that involve mermaids: the 1990 60s-set coming-of-age movie Mermaids, starring Cher, Winona Ryder, and Christina Ricci - none of whom, and we cannot stress this enough, plays a mermaid.  Join in as we discuss Catholic fandom, child performances, abortive attempts to get the movie going with Lasse Hallstrom and Frank Oz, and Kenneth Branagh and Michael Crichton, who are like mermaids in that they had nothing to do with this movie.  Plus: Does Joe live in the belltower? How is Bob Hoskins so cute? Why was Winona Ryder campaigned in supporting instead of lead? And what is the deal with this movie's title? (We are too dumb to figure it out.)  Make sure to rate, review, and subscribe!  Next week: Over the Hedge (2006)
