Eoin Walker and Gareth Lock - Decision Making Under Stress
This week, we welcome Gareth Lock, otherwise known as 'The Human Diver'. Gareth chats with WEM Trauma Lead Eoin Walker about the importance of non-technical skills - including crew resource management, situational awareness and the importance of stepping outside of your own bias. They consider the nuances of communication and decision making, such as closed questions and non-verbal communication - and the impact that factors including PPE and stress can have on practising good communication. The pair also consider how we can harness stress to our advantage - deploying the 'train hard, fight easy' concept that ensures mistakes are made and limits of the system are identified before hitting the operational environment.
