S2 Ep 6 is our first Live Episode from the Los Angeles Central Public Library in Downtown Los Angeles recorded in front of a live audience on May 18, 2024. Joanna Fabicon of the LA Library introduces Susie and Ed. Susie and Ed talk about who they are and why they started TikTok as well as the podcast including normalizing the Asian experience and building a community. Both Susie and Ed grew up trying to fit in and learned to embrace their Asian culture and proud to be in their Asian Joy. Susie nor Ed ever thought that in their lifetime they would go from fighting stereotypes and getting "ching chonged", and being gaslit with "you're so white" to seeing Susie's kids' friends wanting kimchi for school lunches. Questions for Asian People by Non-Asian People include: Say something in Korean/why do Asian people hate being asked to say something in their culture's language? Why do Asians look so young? Why do Asian people hate being asked "where are you from"? Are your parents strict/What are they so strict? Why are Asian women such bad drivers? Why is the model minority stereotype bad? Do you all know karate? Why do so many Asian people own nail salons? Why do so many Asian people play piano? How are Asian people all so skinny? Can you tell the difference between different types of Asians? Why is Asian food so spicy? What's the Asian glow or why do you get so red when you drink?
