Julia Edwards: Complex trauma, grief & competitive athletics

Episode 69 with Julia Edwards. "Even if I’m by myself, I can't relax because the guilt creeps in. ADHD comes with a very lovely side of guilt and shame." Julia is a therapist and certified ADHD-Clinical Services Provider who was diagnosed with ADHD in college after immigrating to the US from El Salvador. As a specialist who also has this diagnosis, she uniquely understands the innumerable ways that this neuro-developmental condition can impact every area of a person’s life as well as those around them. She specializes in helping adults who are coping with trauma, shame, anxiety, and low self-esteem as a result of undiagnosed and untreated ADHD. We talk about her history as a competitive swimmer in El Salvador, as well as how we tend to push ourselves to the point of exhaustion and burnout. She also talks about the emotional toll of COVID, and the complex trauma when you become injured and have ADHD. Julia also co-manages the Women & ADHD online community and premium community, where she offers weekly office hours for members who have questions about ADHD or want 1-on-1 expert advice, and she also hosts a monthly live Q&A in the premium community on various topics relevant to our ADHD experiences.    - - - - - Find the transcript of this episode at www.womenandadhd.com/transcripts   This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp.
