05 ESG Consulting with Heather Burns

Today I am speaking with Heather Burns. Heather is an independent ESG and sustainability consultant who for the past 15 years has helped companies and NGOs improve and report on their social, environmental, and governance performance. Today she helps consultants start and grow their own sustainability practices that have a positive impact. In this wide-ranging conversation, we hear how Heather’s journey into consulting started while she was blogging about environmental issues. She describes how her first client experience was a bit like building the plane as she was flying it. We explore the many skills a sustainability consultant needs including communication and the often underrated skill of influencing.
